Toler Elementary won this year's San Diego Recycler of the Year Award. Each year, the City’s Environmental Services Department selects businesses and organizations located in the city that have implemented or expanded innovative and successful waste reduction, recycling and recycled product purchasing programs. Toler was honored at the City’s Annual Waste Reduction and Diversion Awards Program, which was held in May 2006. “Approximately 500,000 tons of commercial business waste buried in the Miramar Landfill each year could have been recycled,” said Elmer L. Heap, Jr., director of the City’s Environmental Services Department . “ESD hosts these recycling awards to recognize exceptional companies that take the initiative to develop programs that help extend the life of the Miramar Landfill. These companies are leaders, and are setting an example that we hope others will follow,” he said. |
Mrs. Pedersen (Teacher), Mrs. Fierro (parent) and
