All Certificated,Classified Subs Need Photo ID by October 31

Starting November 1, 2008, all certificated and classified substitute employees will be required to present a San Diego Unified School District photo identification when arriving for an assignment at a school site or central office. Failure to meet this deadline may result in substitute employees not having access to the Substitute Assignment Management System (SAMS) and being unavailable for assignments. Prior to November 1, a valid driver’s license or state issued picture ID can be used. District photo identification cards can be obtained at Police Services between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Education Center, 4100 Normal Street.  For information, contact Toren Allen at tallen@sandi.net or (619) 725-8143.

The Great San Diego Walk-About

Want to get in great shape, have fun and set a healthy example for our students? Join the Southern California Schools VEBA fitness challenge: The Great San Diego Walk About Adobe PDF. All district employees age 18 and older can sign-up for this fun, voluntary 8-week walking program. Each participant will receive a pedometer, step-tracking sheets and other items. Prizes will be awarded to those who reach their goals. Other incentives and services will also be available. Deadline to submit a participation form  Adobe PDF  is Friday, September 19. Mandatory Beginning Teacher Induction Open House

The Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) program is hosting a mandatory Induction Open House Adobe PDF for all newly-hired first-year teachers (not interns), out-of-state teachers who need to obtain a professional clear credential, all new Level I Special Education teachers (not interns), and second-year teachers who have not yet participated in BTSA Induction. These teachers must complete the BTSA Induction Program in order to obtain a professional clear credential from the State of California. The Open House will take place on Wednesday, September 3, or Thursday, September 4, from 4-6 p.m., at the IMC. For information, call the BTSA Office at (858) 496-1861. 

Purchase Card Training Schedules Set

Employees must attend a training session prior to becoming a district purchase cardholder, approver or reconciler. The fall training schedule is:

  • Wednesday, September 10, 10 a.m. – 12 noon
  • Thursday, October 9, 1-3 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 13, 10 a.m. – 12 noon
  • Thursday, December 11, 1 - 3 p.m.

School Site Clerk Typist I Reclassification

Employees in Clerk Typist I positions who have served two consecutive school years at a school site may be eligible for reclassification to School Clerical Assistant. Reclassification is based on the requirements in the School Clerical Assistant Reclassification Request Form and District Procedure 7540, D.3.   • Educational Technology Fall/Winter Classes
    Registration is underway for Ed Tech Fall/Winter classes, which start Wednesday, September 17. Courses include Intro to Moodle; Moodle 1 and 2; Using Video; Google Collaborative Tools; Using Digital Images; Using Graphical Organizers; Using Online Databases and United Streaming.  Courses scheduled for September through December are held from 4-6 p.m. at the IMC.   • Teen Suicide Prevention Workshop

Air and Space Museum Free Event for Educators

The San Diego Air & Space Museum invites all local educators to a special teacher evening at the museum on Wednesday, September 24, from 4-8 p.m. The evening includes free admission to the exhibit galleries, including the world premiere traveling exhibition Star Trek the Exhibition, refreshments and special prize drawings.
