All contract teachers report to school sites this Wednesday, August 27. Monday, September 1, all schools and district offices will be closed in observance of Labor Day. Tuesday, September 2, is the first day of school for students.

The Special Education Division is hosting a series of open community forums for parents, community members and staff:

• Tuesday, August 26, from 6:30-8 p.m., Lincoln High School, 4777 Imperial Avenue
• Wednesday, August 27, from 1-2:30 p.m., Ballard Parent Center, 2375 Congress Street

The Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) program is hosting a mandatory Induction Open House  for all newly-hired first-year teachers (not interns), out-of-state teachers who need to obtain a professional clear credential, all new Level I Special Education teachers (not interns), and second-year teachers who have not yet participated in BTSA Induction. These teachers must complete the BTSA Induction Program in order to obtain a professional clear credential from the State of California. The Open House will take place on Wednesday, September 3, or Thursday, September 4, from 4-6 p.m., at the IMC. For information, call the BTSA Office at (858) 496-1861.

Employees must attend a training session prior to becoming a district purchase cardholder, approver or reconciler. The fall training schedule is:

• Wednesday, September 10, 10 a.m. – 12 noon

• Thursday, December 11, 1 - 3 p.m.

• Earth Science (K-5) Make-up Day

• Educational Technology Fall/Winter Classes
  Registration is underway for Ed Tech Fall/Winter classes, which start Wednesday, September 17. Courses include Intro to Moodle; Moodle 1 and 2; Using Video; Google Collaborative Tools; Using Digital Images; Using Graphical Organizers; Using Online Databases and United Streaming. • Crown Point Enrollment Day
  Crown Point Junior Music Academy, the first public school in San Diego County to feature the world-renowned Suzuki violin music program, is having a special enrollment day   on Thursday, August 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Free Kids Day
  The San Diego Unified Police Department and STAR/PAL are organizing a Free Kids Day  on Wednesday, August 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Colina Park. Activities include a soccer clinic, golf, swimming and a barbeque lunch. The event is free to the first 100 kids, ages 9-13 years, who turn in a waiver. (flyer) For information, contact Det.
