Title 1 Academic Achievement Schools Announced
A Dozen San Diego Unified Campuses Are On Elite List
SAN DIEGO – A dozen San Diego Unified schools have received Title I Academic Achievement Awards from the California Department of Education for 2007.
“These are all schools that have set very high standards and the students have responded,” said Superintendent Carl Cohn. “It’s continued proof that if you challenge our young people, they will succeed.” It’s the third year Dewey, Ericson, Fletcher, Florence and Perry elementary schools have made the academic list. To be eligible, schools must satisfy several criteria, including surpassing the growth target in Academic Performance Index (API) test scores, as well as meeting the targets in 2005-06 and 2006-07. The elementary schools honored all had API scores of at least 758 and high schools topped 646. The Index is one of the measures required under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Title I schools are those that receive federal funding based on the economic levels of its students. Now part of the No Child Left Behind Act, the funding is designed to help schools with the most economically disadvantaged students. |
