News Release:
Message from the Superintendent

October 23, 2007

Hello San Diego Unified families. This is Superintendent Carl Cohn. First and most importantly, our hearts go out to all families who are personally affected by the fires. Due to these difficult circumstances, all district schools and extended day programs will be closed for the remainder of the week. As we monitor the situation, you will be notified when schools will re-open. Five child development centers will be available for emergency day care. A special phone line is available to answer your questions at (619) 725-8140.

To assist families with children at Qualcomm Stadium and Mira Mesa High School, San Diego Unified and the San Diego Education Association are working together to provide support for students at these sites. Books, arts and crafts supplies, as well as volunteer teachers are needed. If you would like to help, call the San Diego Education Association at (619) 283-4411.

The safety of our students and staff members are our top priority. Please keep your children safely indoors with limited physical activity.

Thank you,
Superintendent Carl Cohn
