Voters in the San Diego Unified School District this November will have the choice of approving $2.1 billion in school bonds, the Board of Education decided July 23.
The resolution placing the "School Repair and Safety Measure of 2008" on the November 4, 2008 was approved unanimously by the Board at its July 23, 2008 meeting. A citizens' committee is being formed to campaign for the measure, which requires 55 percent of the voters to approve.
The bond issue is being requested to update school facilities for new technologies, which will improve student learning and instruction. The proposal also includes more than $273 million for upgrades required under the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. In addition, funding is allocated for projects that will be decided by each school, with $150 per student set aside for projects selected by the school.
