Morse High School Senior Honored by Nobel Laureates

Gerald Morgan and actor David Krumholtz Morse High School senior Gerald Morgan (right) was honored at the 6th Annual California Nobel Laureates Dinner on November 19, 2007. The event was hosted by the Swedish Consulate of Los Angeles to honor the California Nobel Laureates and exceptional COSMOS (California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science) students. Gerald attended COSMOS at UC Santa Cruz this past summer, where he spent four weeks focused on the "Logic and Linear Algebra" cluster and got a taste of university life. He presented his COSMOS final project, "Logical Proof-Proof by Contradiction," at the dinner.

Guests at the event included Nobel Laureates, university presidents, top researchers, consul generals, former governor Pete Wilson, and actor David Krumholtz (left), who plays math genius Charlie Eppes on the CBS crime drama NUMB3RS. The keynote speaker was Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Alan J. Heeger, PhD, who delivered an inspiring speech regarding solar technology advancement and intellectual curiosity.

Morse AP Statistics Teacher Shirley Miranda attended the event with Gerald. “All the guests were thoroughly impressed with Gerald's work and went out of their way to speak with him,” said Miranda. “University dignitaries actively recruited Gerald to attend their universities, including UC Berkeley and UC, San Diego.”
