September 2007
Dear Gage Families,
Throughout the school year, the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) receives
numerous complaints about various traffic issues around Gage Elementary
School. These complaints range from parking related issues to more serious
hazardous driving related matters. The SDPD is working in partnership
with Gage Elementary to try and solve some of the traffic problems around
the school.
Beginning in September, 2004, a new plan was implemented around the
campus. The location where students in cars are dropped off before school
or picked up after school was changed as described below. Pedestrian
traffic continues to enter campus through the front entrance.
-
Morning Drop Off: Drop off children
for school on the 8500 block of Highwood Dr. Please pull your vehicle
to the curb, and let your child exit your vehicle on the passenger
side of the car. Do not allow your child to exit your vehicle on the
street side toward oncoming traffic. Do not double-park to drop off
children. Do not stop in the middle of the street to drop off children.
Pedestrians can enter campus through the gate on Highwood Dr. until
approximately 8:00 a.m. daily.
Note: The school parking lot is large enough only to accommodate staff
parking; spaces are assigned. Please do not drop off or pick up students
in this lot. Signs are posted prohibiting this. It is neither safe
nor legal. Thank you for your help with this!
-
Afternoon Pick Up: Children who are
picked up from school by a parent in a vehicle will be released from
campus through the gates located on the 8500 block of Highwood Dr.
The gate will be unlocked at approximately 1:50 p.m. daily (12 noon
on Wednesday).
-
Students who take a bus: Students
who take a bus to school will continue to enter the school grounds
from the Hudson Dr. gate. When dismissed from school, students will
catch the bus on Hudson Dr.
The SDPD and the school appreciate your cooperation. We believe this plan
will alleviate the severe traffic congestion around the school, and will
be much safer for our children. If you have any questions or concerns,
please feel free to contact the SDPD at (858) 495- 7936.
Sincerely,
