Dear Gage Families,
Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year! To our new and returning families,
we are pleased that you will be part of the Gage family and we are looking
forward to working with you and your child for a very successful school
year.
This year, we, Gage Elementary, are committed to accelerating student
performance, providing a safe, orderly, and well-maintained school,
to strengthen our parent and community support, boost employee morale
and secure adequate funding for our school.
Achieving these goals will, of course, require teamwork. It is our goal
to create a supportive environment where each child can be successful.
More importantly, my philosophy is that all decisions should be made
in the context of what is best for the children, our students.
Please know that the traffic flow plan for student vehicle drop off
and pick up that began several years ago and will once again be in place
this year. A copy of this plan is on the reverse side of this letter
and is included in the parent/student handbook. Please read it carefully
as the SDPD will be citing vehicles in violation. We appreciate your
cooperation and support in following this plan, as it will ensure the
safety for all our students. (*Archived Parking
Letter)
This week, several pieces of information will be sent home for you to
read, sign, and return. One important packet includes new registration
cards for ALL students. Please read, complete and return this card immediately
so that we can update emergency release information and add new phone
numbers, etc. It is crucial that we have the most up-to-date information
for your child.
Please note: breakfast and lunch prices have increased. This year breakfast
will cost $.75 and lunch is $1.50. There are a variety of ways to put
money into your child’s food account; this information is included
in the parent/student handbook.
I hope you had an opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee and meet some
of our PTA Board members this morning as you brought your child to school.
We hope you, too, will consider joining the PTA, as well as volunteering
to help with one or more of the wonderful programs that they sponsor.
(We are always looking for some dads to join us this year.)
Back to School Night will be on Thursday, September 27th, in addition
to meeting the classroom teacher and learning about our instructional
program, you will also have an opportunity to meet our PTA Board Members,
Gage Foundation Board Members, and our Partners in Education (Cal Coast
Credit Union and Wendy’s). You will be receiving a Back to School
flier in a couple of weeks. We look forward to seeing all of you there!
In closing, Abraham Lincoln once said, “The best thing about the
future is that it comes only one day at a time.” I am looking
forward to our future together, one day at a time.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Zitsman
