Dear Gage Families,
Last week, our 5th grade students traveled to Balboa Park, where they
had the opportunity to visit the museums, e.g. Rueben H. Fleet Science
Center, the Museum of Man, and visit the world famous San Diego Zoo.
The Balboa Park program is a wonderful educational opportunity for our
students.
I am pleased to announce that one of our 4th grade students, Natalie
Stoklosa is being honored tonight at the San Carlos Branch library.
Natalie entered an essay contest sponsored by the San Diego Public Library,
the Friends of the San Diego Public Library and San Diego Unified School
District.
Congratulations! Gage students collected a total of $1170.00 for the
“Pasta for Pennies” fundraiser supporting the Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma,
and Hodgkin’s disease and to improve the quality of life of patients
and their families. Gage students are awesome!
During the month of April, students in grades 2-5 will be taking a variety
of tests, some are federally or state mandated while others our district
mandated. Tests and assessments are an important part of the educational
process. There are several ways to help your child perform well on tests.
Here a few suggestions:
-
Please make sure your child attends school regularly,
completes homework and reading and math assignments. Time spent in
learning situations increases the likelihood that he/she will do well
on tests.
-
Encourage your child to do his/her best on all tests
and avoid placing too much emphasis on any one test.
-
Make sure you child gets plenty of sleep.
-
Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast before
coming to school (Breakfast is served in the cafeteria each morning
from 7:25-7:45 a.m.)
-
Plan ahead to avoid problems before the test so your
child doesn’t go to be upset.
Reminder: Students are not to be dropped off at school
before 7:30 a.m. There is no supervision prior to that time, morning
supervision begins at 7:30 a.m., at which time students may participate
in the running club, eat breakfast or line up on the blacktop.
Students should not bring valuable items like i-pods, PS2, or hand held
games to school; cell phones must be kept in the students’ backpacks
during the school day. Students may only use cell phones after school;
we are not responsible if any of these items are lost or stolen.
As a safety precaution, we ask that all parents, relatives or visitors
sign in at the office before proceeding on to the school campus. For
the safety of all our students, I want to thank you in advance to your
help in ensuring that we maintain a safe school.
Please join us on Thursday, April 10th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Souplantation
for a fundraiser sponsored by the PTA. Souplantation will donate 15%
of sales generated by Gage Elementary. Please remember to bring your
flyer.
Kindergarten registration is the week of April 14…you and your
child may visit a classroom on Wednesday the 16th from 10:30 –
12:00. Please sign in the office before proceeding to the classrooms.
