Dear Gage Families,
It is hard to believe how quickly the school year is flying by. Next
week, March 17th through March 21st we will be on Spring break.
We would like to congratulate all our Student Recognition Award Winners!
We are very proud of our students’ accomplishments and we want
to thank everyone who was able to join us for the special grade level
ceremonies.
On March 3rd, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday with an assembly
outside of the library. Students spent the day reading and enjoying
the many books written by Theodore Gisele, better known as Dr. Seuss
.
Friday, March 7th was the last day of the “Pasta for Pennies”
fundraiser to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission
to cure leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and Hodgkin’s disease and
to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Gage
students are awesome!
Our 5th grade students will be traveling to Balboa Park the week of
March 31st, where they will have the opportunity to visit the museums,
e.g. Rueben H. Fleet Science Center, the Museum of Man, and visit the
world famous San Diego Zoo. The Balboa Park program is a wonderful educational
opportunity for our students.
We are proud to recognize one of our fifth grade teachers, Mr. Gary
Hafner, who was recently selected Gage Elementary’s teacher of
the year! Mr. Hafner was chosen by his peers for this well-deserved
distinction and will represent the school at a district event in May.
Congratulations Mr. Hafner!
This Friday, the 5th Grade Boosters are sponsoring a dance, the Shamrock
Shake from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the auditorium. The money raised will go
to this years’ fifth grade class for their end of year party and
gift to the school. Presale tickets are $1.00 for students and $2.00
for adults which may be purchased after school. Tickets purchased on
Friday evening will be $2.00 for students and $3.00 for adults. Students
must be accompanied by a parent, no drop offs allowed.
Another reminder, students should not be dropped off at school before
7:30 a.m. Morning supervision does not begin until 7:30, at which time
students can participate in the running club, eat breakfast in the cafeteria,
or line up on the blacktop.
I would, also, like to remind parents that students should not bring
valuable items like i-pods, PS2, or hand held games to school; cell
phones must be kept in the students’ backpacks during the school
day. They may only use them after school; we are not responsible if
any of these items are lost or stolen.
