Elementary Magnet for Enhanced Literacy Through Arts and Culture
provides a focus on learning through on-campus and community arts
and cultural opportunities. In-class residencies in theatre, music,
dance and visual arts, field trips, assemblies, and family workshops
all enhance ways of learning and expand means of expression. All
students create plays, poetry, photojournalism, and musical compositions
— sharing their learning as storytellers, actors, and puppeteers.
Our staff
includes a videographer who trains students to be researchers
and producers, helping them create video documentaries and monthly
news programs which require interviewing techniques and hands-on
use of TV/video studio equipment. A full-time librarian teaches
nonfiction, thematic study, readers’ workshop, research
skills, and author and illustrator studies, as well as use of
the library’s research computers.
